Dr. Kirmani grew up in Houston and attended UT Austin where he graduated with honors and earned a B.A. in Psychology. After completing medical school at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, he moved to New York City to do his psychiatric residency at Beth Israel Medical Center. He received extensive training in both psychopharmacology and psychotherapy and had the honor of being elected Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Kirmani stayed on at Beth Israel after completing his residency and served as Physician-in-Charge of the Psychiatric Emergency Department as well as taking on a faculty appointment at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. While in New York he also worked with homeless and under-served populations and joined a busy private practice in midtown Manhattan.
Dr. Kirmani moved to Austin, TX in 2010 and joined the Counseling and Mental Health Center on the UT Austin campus as Staff Psychiatrist. He provides psychotherapy supervision for psychiatric residents at the UT Southwestern Residency Program at Seton Hospital. He is happy to be back in Austin and is excited to be using his breadth of experience to serve the Central Texas community.
